rebuilding 69(;(400

my 455 in the bird locked up last week . so i am going to take the crank out of my 69 custom s 400 and see if it can be saved with matched bearings . the bore has no groove at the top going to clean the pistons and use new rings . I have the rebuilt 6x heads of my 455 what compression will i have with the factory 69 pistons ? On a pontiac forum that i go . i was told use the 066 or 068 gto cam . I would like to use the old edd torker intake that i was running on it before it started knocken . and can i build up my old 600 holley to give enough gas to this motor ?

I would say it will have around 8.75.1 C/R . Mark the Rod's and Main Caps . Pull it a-part if you did not wast a Rod and the Crank can be Cleaned up at about .020" Bolt them Heads on and have a 400 . That 068 H.O Camshaft is not bad I had on in a Lower Compression 400 that ran real strong and had tons of Top End with the 3.23 Gear out back . It will make about 310 H.P but have nice off Idle Torque . You really will be much better off with a Q-Jet intake and a properly rebuilt Q-Jet / HEI with a Curve Kit . I do Like Pontiac 400's for the Street .


I cannot think to leave you now . For that alone I still fight on .
