cummins dead peddle

My 03 2500 is having issues with the throttle peddle. Its s 5.9 Cummins starts fine has good power but the other day I got off the freeway coming home and had no throttle. It didn't die just pushing on the peddle had no response. its a drive  by wire so no cable, I think its the throttle position sensor but that suckers $400 I want to be sure that's what it is before I replace it. Anyone have any ideas.

Is there a increase in smoke? Or a decrease in power?

almost forgot, I replaced the Throttle position sensor, found it for about $100 less than the dealer. That was it she's running like a top again. but to answer 88ss question, no smoke and zero power. Basically it was as if the throttle cable had broke. It would start and idle but pushing on the accelerator did nothing and seems it is a drive by wire there is no throttle cable just the sensor. I'm glad it was the TPS and not the peddle assy. or I would have paid much more, its almost impossible to find a diesel in the salvage yards around here.

Glad you found you problem and fix it. It pretty much impossible to find a Cummins truck in any juck yard them motors go forever. I had one for 16 years and then sold it. And it's still running today.
