RE: 1965 El Camino project

the bbc I took out of the elky spun 3 main bearings and had been parted together from 2 junk motors. Once I took it apart it was going to be more to fix than it was worth so I found a Gen6 bbc at a machine shop that was unassembled had all machine work done and with new parts for less than what it would have cost to start from scratch. I plan on putting it in the chevelle. I need to get a cam and heads for it. I have the original cam and heads but its a truck cam, so I want to put a different cam in it and different heads.

Sorry to hear that Rick, but at least you found a good replacement before the costs got too high!

typical car stuff it seems, I put the crank in the big block and stopped on the assembly because I think it will be easier to install the cam when I get one

Got a starter yesterday and put it on then put the headers on tonight. Had to pull the starter and lift the motor to get the headers on. Funny thing is the big block had more room to work on it go figure.

Full length headers can take up a lot of space. I remember I had to remove my headers to change my starter. B4 I whent to a mini.
Now I just have to remove them when I want to remove my inspection cover for my torque converter.

Had to get a new starter and even though it was adjustable it is made so the solenoid will hit the blockno should have saved and spent a few more dollars on a better starter.

tried to paint Sunoco on my car last night using water colors just to get an idea of what it might look like. Now granted I'm no Picasso but it didn't look like I imagined.bleh

I know it will look better with someone that knows what their doing but I used colors. I think black and gray will look better. I just don't like the car plain white it needs some thing

Got fuel line and new sending unit installed, now I have to put the trans dip stick in got in a hurry and didn't think about it when I dropped the motor and trans inconfuse. Then the cooling lines not sure if I'm gonna use power steering or manual. I have a manual unit on the chevelle might put it on and run it other wise its $350 for new brackets/mounts or I go salvage yarding for brackets everything I have came off the Big block  and Im using an electric water pump so having to make brackets. I made a bracket for the Alt. but the power steering aint happening. Lots of fun
