Big Block chevy

OK so I scored a BB chevy out of a 79 1 ton, motor and trans work perfect. Going to put it in the Elcamino was thinking of changing cam while its out but Im just going to put it in as is with a rattle can rebuild. I would like to change out the intake for a Edelbrock performer and maybe some shorty headers, I would go long tube but got to see what kind of room I have. It has a Quadrajet carb which seems to work good I think Ill leave it for now. I got this set up for basically a tow, took a trailer out to the middle of the desert for a friend who's son is going to work at a mine. So far Im into this car or truck what ever it is for less than $2000 bucks. I still have interior, paint and tires to go, Got a set of wheels off graigslist. Paint is going to run about $200 already have the primer and sealer, got as devibliss paint gun from summit. Thinking of painting it originall color kind of a beige and putting a flat black hood and black strip around the back like a COPO, then I want to rub it so the primer almost comes threw in places give it a little patina look.

Yeah you definatly want some headers and duals on there.
An intake would not be a bad idea along with a recurved HEI.
And that 454 should haul the camino real good!!!

thinking about a cam for the motor, stock 454 oval port heads performer rpm intake is the only after market thing on it. what is a good cam that will get some power without changing valve springs just drop in and go

I here that alot but havent figured it out yet, and I'm still fightin the inner demons. Have always liked small blocks and its hard to think of an engine being done at 4000rpm vs 7000. I want this motor to turn atleast 5500rpm  with power coming in at around 1800. I figure its a bbc so it should make enough torque of idle to make it go

question, the 454 has flat top pistons and they are abut 3/16 in the hole so compression is 8.1.1 or so. I will check with a mic. when I am ready, but wondering if I can put a domed piston in it to make compression. will this work with just honing

Depends on heads, but you should be able to. Need to get more specs to be sure though.
