my buget 305sbc build.

hey guys i was in the shop wondering what to do until this snow is gone to start my truck build. so i have this 305 long block  friend of mine gave me.he said it was new so i thought it was a .030 over block. but after talking to him it was a gm replacement.

but anyway the block is in good shape. so i am gonna put some left over parts on it an see how it turns out.

i am gonna use a set of H.O. 416 heads i have laying around will clean them up.will reuse all the bolts and push rods and rockers .this is a staight buget all the way build.

the only parts i will buy are head gaskets and intake gaskets cam and timing chain.i am even reusing a old set of cast iron manifolds (wish they where ram horns tho) i will also be getting a can of engine paint.just because its on a buget it dont have to look bad.

so you guys think i should go with chevy orange or the chevy blue ??

will post pics of this build when i start it on tuesday i got to hit the speed shop for parts b4 i start.

here are some pics of the block all cleaned up anlong with the heads ans oil pan. and this is the gasket kit i will be using just a cheap mr. gasket replacement kit. along with a stock replacement fuel pump.

as for the mpg's i am thinking in around the 20's its gonna be a stock redo besides the 300hp 327 cam i am putting in.

i would have also liked to get the L69 style shim head gaskets but you can only get them at the dealer and dealer items are at a premium.

well got the valve seals in and the valves cleaned up.also cleaned up the head bolts.
i was looking at the cam specs for the 300hp 327 cam i was gonna use. i did not know it was that small.
by the looks of it it was used in the 70-80 400 sbc and in many 70-80 350.

Well I got a performer rpm intake. But its under 5 feet of snow so I have to wait till spring. Or I can get a s2p2 intake for 30$
So thinking about that.
