1988 dakota v6 to v8 swap

Getting the truck ready for the 318 but one thing i can think of that may be of concern is the wireing. Everything goes to the computer I think if i find the power from the fuse box i should be able to go from there without the computer, dash lights may not work like check engine or service engine soon but i can hook up oil, temp and volts (manual) the a500 will need a togle to lock up the convertor. does all this sound right? I'll get some pics as progress goes on, going to take the front clip off to make it easier to get to the motor mounts. If anyone has an idea about that wireing please let me know thanks. Not sure if tha fuse panel is controled by the computer.

As for your Wiring . It's not so Bad Like you may think it will be . You want to mark your alternator and Starter even Coil Wiring . Also the Wires going to the Temp and oil Senders . Then unplug and remove all the Wires off the Engine . Remove the V6 Then go over the wiring harness remove all the Computer wires from that harness and discard them . The Gauge Senders do not go through the Computer . I used the Power from the Coil to Fire My HEI and the Fuel Pump Relay wiring to Power My Electric Choke . What you don't want to do is Cut the alternator or Starter Wiring up . My Monte Carlo had even More Computer Wires then My TBI Truck did . Just remove the Fuse for the ECM and Remove the Computer . The New Engine with Carb will only need the alternator and Starter wiring and Ign Hot for the Dist / and Coil maybe a Hot wire for an Electric Choke .

Here is some Mess of Wires off My Computer to carb Swaps .

No real progress on the swap yet just run into 1 problem after another. going to make my own motor mounts with some 1 1/2" or 2" square tube and 3/16" flat. My other problem is the oil pan, can't seem to find one. been posting over at Denny's place and i'll keep you guys up on it as well. Called the dealer today and they could only help me if I had a VIN they had never heard of a v8 dakota Shelby at least in 89, Crapy dealership. So I'm thinking of notching and boxingthe crossmember only 1"if needed i can add a guset under it for strength, any thoughts?

just fixed everything, how you ask. A guy passing buy bought the truck. I hate giving up on a project but the price was right and it's Christmas. The only thing is I kept the motor and trans which means a project of some kind down the road, easy come easy go I guess.

rjsbu I don't worry so much about turning Car's or Truck's . If you Health is good you can build more of them . Most any Car or Truck should have a selling price you can build them all out Like you want them and still have an eye on another Project that you think you have to have .
