Picked up an Old Time Mini Bike

Well today when I was checking the ads on Mini Bike's . I found one and it was not far from were I Live . I got it Ha-biggrin $120.00 with a code H70 / 7 H.P Tecumseh Engine . Needs a few parts and some Mods to make it a Runner . But it's a Larger size frame with shocks and a Nice size set for Big Kids to ride it biggrin

I did some funning around with that 7 H.P Engine today . I installed a new Fuel Line removed the factory Muffler ran a straight Pipe for now but I am going to install a Muffler Later on . I had it running but it would not stay running for Long . It did warm up and sounds COOL nice deep sound not to crackly . Then I removed the Carb to see why it won't stay running no I can try and Rebuild it ? But I think it's best to buy a new Carb so I ordered one . Not real cheap but I want this Engine to run well and not Let Me down when I am out Funning with it . I also removed the drive Pulley that was on it . I am sure this Engine saw service on a Snow Blower . I was able to remove a Good Clutch that came off a 3 H.P Mini Bike Engine that was on another Mini Bike that My Father owned . I am going to start out running that Clutch on the 7 H.P . Check out the 7 H.P next to the 3 H.P Ha-biggrin

Man that is luck.. I,d love to restore an old TACO,remember them. I built one, after I did that Chopper Triumph in Calif. I put a go kart dual carbed Westbend on it. Had to start it with a go kart starter mtr ,,But it was stupid fast.

Mokan that Mini Bike you had sounds COOL . The First one I had I was 16 and already owned a car . But My best Friend back then had a Old Mini Bike Frame with wheels on it a Roller Ha-Ha . Then I Kinda Ha-Ha Found a concrete Mixer Engine . It was an Iron Tall Block not sure on what H.P it was . I ran that with a Lock Clutch Direct drive and it had no Brakes ! The Compression of that Engine did help to lug it down in the Low RPM's and I smoked the Bottoms of a Few Jim Shoes as well . That Joker was un-governed and Fast as could be . One Time I had a Friend on the Back we had to be about 300 Lbs together and we could still go just over 40 MPH . Yes I did Not ask My Mon if I could have it and Dad did not Know about that one back then Ha-Ha . Later on when I first got Married I had two other Mini Bikes . I bought a New 5 H.P Long Block bought all the parts Intake carb from a Lawn Mower Shop it had no Governor on it too I would say it yanked out at Least another H.P . That one My brother ended up with and still has it . It was quick too but I think My Fathers 6 H.P could beat it . My Dad is real Happy I am building this one and is Looking forward to going riding . Last Friday when I stopped by to see him . He asked Me if I was Building anything New Ha-biggrin

Made a split manifold, sounded like a Chevy if you used your imagination. LOL Ran about 45 mph. Radio Flyer Wagon chassis.jpgPicture 387.jpgPicture 386.jpgPicture 377.jpgPicture 096.jpg

Yes,handfull pretty well sums it up. The very 1st time I tried it, I ended up in the garden with it on top of me,and gasoline running down the crack of my ass. Soon learned,I had to sit as far fwd as I could and kept the steering wheel close to my chest. It ran like a sprint car. I have an acre yard, soo was soon making a full throttle circle ,sliding around the turns. When Donna saw that I was making a track in our grassy yard, she pretty much threatened me to stop. But it was a rush. I ended up making the trailer for it,and took it along to a few cars shows. It was always a big hit. Yes I want to restore one of those Taco,s.. Think I will start looking again. Ebay shipping is soo expensive, need to find one local, but odds arnt good.

Ha-Ha good story Mokan you are way COOL Ha-Ha .

Yesterday Morning before Bed I was out in the garage test fitting that Monster of an Engine on to that Mini Bike . Yeah it fits and will work . But it's Like a BB in a Pinto . I will give it a go one problem is were the foot peg is on the Right side the Large engine cover/pull start is . Like most of the stuff I have dealt with Lately it's kinda up hill . But I will make it work maybe a 1/2 Spacer / Mounting Plate under the Engine . And a Slight dent to the Bottom of that cover . The carb is ordered and hopefully on it's way and not cheap at $80.00 . I will give this 7 H.P Engine some run time . But Later on I plan to swap in a smaller Engine maybe 5 H.P that will Fit better . I have a 3 H.P but may as well use My Bike instead Ha-Ha . I Lugged that Engine downstairs and propped it up on My work bench I might install the Clutch I have today . And I will install the carb and modified Fuel Tank once the carb gets here .

I looked at the BAHA 97 cc scooters on the internet,$299.00,,,, They have no suspension and run 15 mph.. I think they are made really cheap and wouldnt work for an adult . One Taco I found on Ebay was a mess, and no shipping avail. It was in Texas. I,d use a Go Kart MTR,for sure.. I think most would be a much easier fit..?????????

Mini Bikes are up in price . My Dad picked up his for under $250.00 Brand New from Sears also Northern Tool sells them . You can also buy a Kit with no Engine . But they are asking around $300.00 . The Mini that My Father Bought is not a Bad one . Just was under Powered with the 2.8 H.P it comes with . Now I would Not mind a Go Kart as well . But they are more Costly even used ones and take up more room . But I am sure I will have one before to Long Ha-Ha . Now the OHV 6 H.P Tecumseh My Dad has is the newer design and is not as Tall as My 7 H.P Engine . His 6 H.P Engine Lays down more . The Ports on My old Engine are a nice size and it sounds good it should run strong . I would Like to run it one day on a one seat Go Kart . Mokan keep Looking around you will find a deal on a Mini Bike . If the price is right and it has a Tiny Engine . I now a place that you can Buy some H.P to muscle it up . I did not Post a Link to it because at times they have a Limited amount of Go Kart / Mini Bike Engines . They ship them Like a Crate Engine add the oil and go .

Yeah,I looked at the kits,no engine, chain,or chain guard,$400.00 didnt make sense to me. But the early Tacos like your green one had full suspension and heavier frame. Your bargain will be perfect.. After you have made it "RED" LOL

Today My carb showed up and Last night after work I installed the good used clutch I removed off the 3 H.P I had sitting . I have to transfer the throttle and choke Plate Parts off the other carb . It's not Like a Bolt on Like for a car . And I am going to Fab up an Exhaust system too . I should have this 7 H.P Engine running this weekend .

My Dad has that same one but paid about $250.00 out the door from Sear's . He had to swap in the Larger Engine so it would Pull better with his Bigger Boy Size Ha-Ha

Right out the Box they have the throttle stop back out so you don't get full throttle maybe Like 65% throttle . So yes it goes about 15 MPH . After we adjusted that with a screw driver . With me on it (170) Lbs on the Flat Street it would get about 30-32 MPH . My Dad is Bigger then Me and wanted to use his through grassy fields . So we had to up the Engine Size . Stock they have a 2.8 H.P Engine Like this . Now with the Bigger Engine His Mini will go just over 40 with the governor still untouched .
