If you have that 318 take that 3/4 of an Engine out and drop in that V8 . I was going up Hill all the way with My 5.7 TBI in my truck . It was going to cost big Money to make it run right . No More EPA testing for it so in went the 305 with 4bbl never ran Better and hooked it up to a Exhaust sniff Tester it's under Exhaust Limits for it's year . Just throw out all that stuff you don't need and Let that 318 run Free . Make some mounts to shoe horn it in .

the 318 is hanging on the picker, I'm going to get the dist pickup today and try it if it dos'nt work i can take it back and I'll try to sell all the stuff off this motor that i can, I think the v8 will get about the same milage with the 2bbl

took the fuel pump the coil pick up and coil back got my money and pushed it in a corner for now whenI get time I'll pull the 6 and drop the 8 in then start wireing around the computer. problem solved

Now your talk . You have to know when to throw the towel in and go with another plan . It's better then breaking the bank and having it sit . Once you get that 318 in there it will be your Favorite Hot Rod because you will be able to drive the Tire off it everyday .

those are some nice kits but I think I'll save some $$$ and make my own. my neighbor is a welder and always has scrap steel and would give me a hand if i needed it. my main concern was if the trans would hook up and it will (a500) may not be the strongest but it will do for awhile. I plan on starting my garage build soon and as soon as i get the floor poured I'll yank that v6 and get the swap started.

I just wanted you to get some Ideas on How they are made . Not to Copy them to the tee just so you can hopefully Make them . I wish I Lived out by you . I would Love to Fab up them Mounts and swap in that 318 with our own Idea's no Kit's . I have seen 4X4 Dakota's that had 3.9's that were swapped out for 5.2 and 5.9 V8's and Looked Like they reused the Factory Trans . Things to Check are Engine Bolt Pattern / starter mounting Type and side it Bolt on and you might have to re-drill a Flex Plate to bolt up the Converter because it's Bolt Spacing more then Likely is different . I have Drill Flex Plates started back many years . When we used Vega 10" Converters as a Budget stall speeds in our Hot Rod's . I am thinking that V6 is much Like a 3/4 Chopped down 5.2 318 .

I'm a little slow sometimes Tango! great idea about using them as a template thats how i made my alternator bracket by looking at 1 on line and going off it. I know the trans bolts up but the flex plate could be a differant deal. I may pull that motor this weekend just because the salvage yard told me $190 a ton for scrap so there's about $60 sitting there, Part moneybiggrin

Just save all the brackets for now even some that won't work you may rework to fit . Do you also have a small 110 volt welder ?

definatly will save the old brakets or modify them to work. A friend that i loaned a few bucks to once  had a great little millermatic 135 115 volt, gave it to me instead of the money so i'm set on that

That's good that you have one . Make sure you have the right wire for it and it's work good . I went through a few pounds of wire with the one I have . Man I would Like to Find a Dakota Like your out here . I would take the engine and trans out My Truck and swap it in I always seem to start more Projects no

I know what you mean about more projects. this little truck was ment to be a driver something cheap, now it's getting a v8 next it'll be a little bigger cam, a bigger carb, headers, posi. who knows I'm already thinking about putting new bairings in the 318 just because it's sitting there and it's easy and it makes sence. Idid some checking and the 360 magnum heads will bolt on and make a little more hp.

For now I would just do the cleaning up of that engine maybe some valve cover gaskets a water pump and fuel pump . You need to find an oil pan and pick up Like in that Link above . And maybe buy a cheap summit brand or ? 4bbl Intake and one wire plug in Dist . I might have a 600 V/S Carb I can send you if you go with a 4bbl . Don't throw out any Pipes you may have / Crossover Pipe off your Exhaust manifolds . You will need to cut them and section them into some down pipes to Mufflers . As for budget heads them Mid 80's 318's were kinda the Vortec Heads of the 318's . 360 Heads will drop your compression on an as is 318 . Them 318's don't need much to make them wake up . You get that tiny 2bbl off there and install a better dist and exhaust it will run Like a 327 Chevy set up the same way Mopar's ain't no joke Ha-biggrin
