When I go dump picking, 90% of the bikes are Mal-Wart bikes and most of them maybe 3-4 years old. Buy an old Schwinn or some other USAmade brand

I called that Place in California . They said they have a shipment after it goes through customs they will be shipping them out I ordered one Ha-Ha . Bad thing is the Bike I have here that was going to get that Engine it won't bolt up on . So I have to get a different Bike . I think I will do what rjsbu said and buy a Low Dollar Walmart Bike . I want to start out with a Bike that has true Rims Because this Bike could see Speeds up to 40 MPH maybe a bit more after I dial it in or use this stuff on it Ha-biggrin

They sell Cheaper 50cc Kits and even 4 Cycle rear Mounted Kits they are more money . The Weakest Link to this Build is the Wheel Sprocket Set up ? Like a Weak diff in a Car you don't want to throw a Lot of Power at it . This Super Rat Engine is said to make up to 6.5 H.P say on an Aluminum Frame Bike Build with a Light Rider . That Joker could go 45 MPH . They Sell a Heavy Duty Rear Hub and Sprocket assemble that I may end up buying .

Today it's a Hot one right around 90degs . Well I went to Look at this Old Schwinn 26" Bike that was on the Craig's List . I bought it for $70.00 Bucks . The Handle Bars are not Factory But the rest of the Parts Look to be . The Rims Look pretty straight ya it needs new Tires alright Ha-Ha . After De-Coding the Ser# I found out it was made 9/1/1948 . Might Make for a COOL Rat Rod Black Motorized Bike Build ?

From what I have seen on E-Bay this was a good deal on this old bike . I could kinda restore it ! But that would take away the Fun of building it . I found a set of Chrome Springer Forks for it Like to get them too . With the Gear set up for the Engine / Rear Wheel it's best to buy a Heavy Duty Rim with 12ga spokes they are about $60.00-$110.00 Bucks going to get one of them too maybe in 3-Speed . So I guess I should start to take this Joker apart and paint it ? biggrin

Well have some pics pulled out to post, Wanted to show some assy shots, hopfully. This mtr is supposed to be capable of approx 70 mph. I have never put gas/oil in it. Just displaying it. I have a friend that builds a lot of these using Briggs mtrs. They all run 50/60 mph..He uses some pretty simple methods I think in his builds, and mtr installations. He uses the Whizzer gas tanks and drive belt systems I think. The red bike out in my barn I have assembled but never went any further than that. I got my Bike from Schwinn in 1995,it was a 1955 repop beach cruiser. The mtr is a combination of race perf parts that was built for me by the Whizzer design/dev Engr,,Will post more later, but they are fun projects, And yes a good idea in todays gas prices.. Will post a couple parts links..  http://www.memorylane-classics.com/

This is an auto clutch designed by Millinumn. I had them make mine. The stuff you get from Whizzer ,comes from Tiawan.

I purchased the heavy duty wheels with 5" drum brakes from Whizzer.I used them front and rear,as coaster brakes dont do much to stop you..  Heres another link to mtr bikes..

This is a link to a mtr bike forum, has some vids of those bikes running.

If I remember right you have a Large cc Engine on Your Bike . Now it's a straight drive right ? They sell whats called a shift kit then you can change gears . Most guys seem to use a 36 tooth Rear Sprocket 44 comes in the Kits . I was thinking of running a 40 Tooth Gear to get a bit more off Start pick up . But with the Larger Engine that I ordered I may go with the 36 Tooth then you can run Higher Speeds with Lower RPM's . Mokan Fire up your Bike and Enjoy it . You can Clean it up again that Engine Look excellent and should have tons of Power . Did you have one that you use to run around with ? Out Here Just Last Year they change the Law on Motorized Bike because of all the Electric Bikes being made . So the small Gas Bikes were included with speed regulations and Engine size Limits . So you can basically run down the Road with them Like a Bike with no Plates but at speed no to exceed 20 MPH Ha-Ha Yeah I will find a Few spot to ring Mine out more then that .

Also I have an Idea on a Rear Mounted 4 Stroke Bike Build that can be Low Budget I have a 3.75 H.P Engine but yes that exceeds the allowed Street Engine Size Limit by a Lot Ha-Ha have to just call that one an off Road Bike . They do make 49cc Engines that make Near 10 H.P that are Legal but they Co$t Big Time $$$ !

He has sold them all ,except the one pictured at top. You notice ,he cuts the frame and welds a tray/engine mt plate,,Same for most of his Briggs conversions,, Yeah, he says the haul the oats, He also says hes never held one open for very long,, But would cert have lots of pulling power for hills,etc..

I have sent Howard an email asking him for that info. I remember my 1948 Cushman I had as a kid had a 8HP mtr in it with kick start and auto clutch...It would take 2 kids easly at 40 mph. I also had a 1948 Whizzer that had about the same speed, but certainly didnt have the pulling power..Of the cushman. The 3 1/2 hp briggs might have the torque reqd?  Be interesting to see what he says.

Mokan I know if I am going to run a Bike over 30 MPH it's going to have some good strong and Heavy Rims . I had one Bike way up in speed one time and boy was it shaken . Your Friend is an artist with what I would call High Tech Mini Bikes . I am sure they will bring a good price . I will Post some more photos that you sent me .

My Dad just bought a brand New Mini Bike Last week . That is what got my interest going on a Bike Build . See He wants a Mini Bike for the Shooting Range he belongs to . He wants it to use to run Targets down range . But its a Lightly Grassed Road . Needless to Say the New Mini Bike he Bought is rated for a Lighter Person / Kid . It might have 2 H.P and it's an off brand China made Engine . I drove it around in a Parking Lot to break it in . But it's just not enough Engine for what My Dad needs it to do . So He ordered this Ha-Ha http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/product.asp?PN=OHH60-71157-SD&desc=Tecumseh

Saturday I have to Help him Swap it on his Frame biggrin

AHHHHH I love that mtr. It would be perfect for your project.. I think you should restore that old Schwinn.. And buy a Beach Cruiser from Walmart. I got wheels ,with tires and both have 5" drum brakes..They are heavy duty with large spokes, from whizzer. They come assembled, ready to install. Any way, now you have some options. Its got me to thinking,as I have an old cruiser out in the shop I use to run to post office etc. :). These Husky wheels ,appear to have extra heavy spokes..  http://www.huskybicycles.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=hb&Product_Code=500-218&Category_Code=wheels&Product_Count=8

But I really should Look into buying one with a Front Internal Brake set up . And I think the Rear Wheel I am going with in 3 Speed in also a Husky made Wheel with 12ga Spokes . This Place has a Lot of the Good H.D Bike Build Stuff http://www.piratecycles1.com/huskywheels.html

Did some work on the Old Schwinn today . Took it down to the Frame . I was Lucky that all the parts came off with out any Trouble . I did spray it down with penetrating oil Last Weekend . After talking to a few Rat Bike Builders and thinking it over . I am going to just wipe down the rust with oil and a rag and Leave the Rust Look . So the Springer Front Fork is next then the Rear Wheel and Gears so I can do some Engine Mounting / Line-up .

You can see the Factory Color in this Photo here .

Here is the 97cc 2-1/2 H.P 4 Stroke Engine I bought from My Father it's off his New Mini bike . It has Less then one Hour run time on it . And I can see how I can tweak in some more Power . Might squeak out another H.P biggrin Not sure if I will use this on the Schwinn ?

HA HA.. I love any thing that runs. That mtr is ready to go. Most mtrs you find arnt set up for a Gokart etc. But there you have the auto clutch and its set up to accept an ext throttle cable and no govenor. Heck Id start out with that and see how it works. That Schwinn is sweet :)
