i ended up yanking a caddy 472 motor out for the new truck motor. stock these motors are about 8:5-1 but make around 500-530 ft/lbs of torque and 350-375 horse. i already have learned that the stock cams suck and actually close very late on the exhaust killing off even more torque, i am going to put a cam kit in this motor and fab up a set of headers for it. and eventually get an intake, for now up top will remain stock with the stock q-jet maybe rebuilt by a good q-jet guy??smile i think its a big big q-jet like 800-850cfm.

ive found a bunch of sites for them motors.

there was one in boise in a studerbaker that ran 10.30's!

heres that car,

I worked on a Friend of mines 1972 Caddy it had a 472 . Just did a few Mild Mods to it Carb Rebuild and Trick Points Dist Curve Kit remove the Air Pump . That was tricky the plumbing goes right into the front of the Heads . We used freeze Plug to cover the Holes . From what I remember all 1968 Caddys on had that Air Pump set up .

yeah this one did i already got one half of it out, the other one is stuck i will have them plugged up. i would like to get a cam picked out for this beast soon. the cam really helps these motors.

I know Parts are Costly for them . I will have to see who make a Grind for that Beast that is not to expensive . I would not go more then 460" Lift for Now with the Heads and Rockers stock . An Aluminum Intake would be Nice and shed Lots of Ugly Weight but $$$ ! I would Do some Porting on the Stock intake for Now and run a 1" Carb Spacer . Also maybe you can do some Porting to the Factory Log Exhaust Manifolds and make use of them ? I am not Totally against Exhaust Manifold . I Ported out the Set on My Truck's 305 I do think it made a Difference .

this one came stock with a 1 inch spacer, its said to be good for 15 horse, the stock manifolds are crappy looking for flow? but for now thats what i am going to use, cams are not to expensive i cound a comp for 187 bucks in summit? stock i think they are like 480 area for lift? you can go pretty big for all stock valve train. i would like to do some hot rodding to it later for now really besides a good steam cleaning, just adding the HEI and fluding change, it had nice clean coolant in it? that a bonus, and the oil was clean what was left since they drain it? it look to me like it ran good. lots of carbon in the exhaust? haha it was a grandma car

For now just throw in a Timing Chain Set water Pump and Fuel Pump rebuild the Q-Jet drop an HEI in it and Fire it up on a Wood Pellet with a Water Hose hooked up just to Hear it Run .

With the Low Miles on that Engine and Heads they should Clean up real nice and not need many Labor hours . Don't go to wild on the Valve Springs and Camshaft grind .

This one would work well . I would not go any Larger with the amount of Compression that Engine has and with the stock Valve Train .

I think this MTS #10 Series Grind is a Bit much with your C/R and Stock Valve Train and intake . This one would be better matched
