found a bb for my 73 Dart

I have looked for a 440 Mopar engine for some time now . I came across this 1964 Imperial  413 had a carter 4bl and 727 trans . What are the full specs on this beast the owner said 360 hp premium fuel only . It had 84.000 miles and ran good no noises or smoking . I would like to do a camshaft and intake change before shoe horn-ing it into my 73 Dart biggrin Any ideas on this engine and best choice of parts to use . Could I make 400 hp with the intake and cam swap ?

I remember 413's from years gone by, and they were torque monsters from what I recall! I think it's a great choice for an engine especially in your Dart....CR

Oh Ya that's not at all a Bad Engine to fun with . Look at How Much torque it makes at such a Low RPM ?

1964 413 BB -> 4.19 X 3.75 Bore and Stroke 10.1 C/R 340 H.P @ 4600 with 470 Flbs @ 2800 with one 4-Bbl

You could say the 413 is a Small Bore 440 or Bored +.060" = 426ci Max Wedge . I would say Edelbrock Dual Plane intake with 750 Carb an a Camshaft around 226-230 dur at .050" 480" Lift 110 L/C can't go real Wild with that Stock Rocker set up . It will make more then 400 H.P with these mod's and Headers .

I know a guy that hangs out at the local drive in . He has a factory 63 Dodge with a 413 ramcharger engine . I think that had to be one of the fastest cars of the early 60es .

What would be a good camshaft for this 413 . Really don't want to pull the heads to replace springs . But I am going to replace the stock push tubes . its Going in my 1973 Dart with a 727 trans 2400 converter and 3.55 8.25 diff . Looking for an 8.75 rear axle no luck yet in finding one . What size camshaft did Dodge use in their 426 max wedge back then ? Maybe I can find a blueprint cam in them specs or a 440 muscle car cam .

How much cam lift can i safely run with factory 413 rockers ? I bought valve springs good for 520 lift and over sized valves are being installed . Need to pick out the cam want a hot hyd stick . And what size headers should i run ?

mopar purple shaft 284/284 484 lift nice for a mild street engine or a comp cams 292/292 509 lift street strip or 305/305 525lift race all these cams my father ran with good results using stock rockers and the use of a mopar performance rocker shaft shim kit.

full roller roller rockers are availible for a decent price from 440 source the rockers shims shafts and hold downs are a little over $300 .

with better rockers you could take full advantage of mopars large lifter bores and get a cam with real aggresive ramps giveing you a little more bang for the buck.

what casting # is on your heads the best early heads beside max wedge are the ones ending in #915 they are closed chamber and have great potentail.

later heads are 906 and 452

1 7/8 pimary 3 collecters header are availible for your dart this great size for street strip

for race and if you don't mind cutting a few hole hooker super competion fender well headers are good chiose 2 1/8 primary 4 collecters these are the ones Im putting in my duster.

My heads are cast number 2408520 and have 208 and 160 valves . going up to the 174 exhaust valves and steel seats . If i had these heads port and polished would it really be worth it ?

porting polishing and going larger exaust valve may get costly and I would not let a non mopar guy do the porting because some of the tricks that work well on chevys will hurt performance in these heads.

there are porting templates available from mopar performance they are a great guid to start from. the templates are based on many yrs of factory reseach and keep you away from all the thin spots in the heads.

you will also need to get hardened valve seats install do to no lead gas.

the hot set up with iron heads is have over sized valve 2.14 int and 1.81 ex

a alternetive would be to buy a set of 440 source stelth heads for $497 each complete assembled they are good for up to 550 hp write out of box they are alum so you save 40+ pounds off the nose of your car .
