Man was it an Oil Pig . I used two cans of the Good Gunk Engine Cleaner . And I did not waste any on the Oil Pan . The Pan is going right into the Trash . The Metal Man will Take it For sure biggrinnod.gif

I Pulled it down to a Long Block . The Lifter Valley Looked Like a Tar Pit . That how a Lot of these SB's Look Like .

When I removed the oil pan the Lower end was Clean smile

Check out this Stock Aluminum 4bbl Intake that came off that 305 . Yes this is the Same Casting # GM Intake that was on the Late 70's Corvettes / 80's SS Monte's . Not a Bad Piece and it has Nice Size Ports . I will see how it Cleans Up and most Likely Use it on another Build one Day .

When the marks Line up Like this You are on TDC #6 Cylinder nod.gif

I have seen Threads on Other Forums that Tell Folks to wiggle or wobble the Rocker others say Lift it up and down till you have Zero up and down Movement . First you need to have Engine Oil on all the Contact Point on the Rocker and Pushrod ends . Then when you get Close to the Zero Clearance Contact Point . Just turn the Pushrod with Two Fingers Like this . As you just feel a Bit of Drag on the Push Rod . This is Zero Clearance . Now you can Set the Lifter as needed I go 1/2 Turn Down from Zero on a Street Engine Like this one .

All the Valves are set good to go .

Chrome SBC Dress Up Kit . Summit # SUM-7001SMT Good Deal $28.95 Valve Covers Have Baffles Better to have them . Only Thing I could not use was the Timing Tab . It's for an 8" Balancer . I had one that I bought from dgas it wil work on the 6-3/4" Balancer . I Still need to buy a New 6-3/4" OD Balancer .

I installed that Harmonic Balancer . I Oiled it up and used the Tool . Yes you can
use the Block of wood with Hammer way . And you have to do it that way on the 1967 and older SB Chevy's . I just feel much better about the Build when I use the Install Tool . This New Balancer went on Tight . Would have took some Hammer blows to Drive it one .

Added some (ZDDP) Engine Oil Supplement $9.95 a 12 oz Bottle

2czedi.jpg

Used this Rotella-T HD 15 W40 Truck Oil . Also great for Breaking in Camshafts and Performance Engines on a Budget . Also bought the Bigger 350 Truck Filter .

Ok Looks Like everything is in place here . I had this Carter AFB 4bbl that came off a 1965 327 Corvette . Some Time ago I rebuilt it with an Auto Store Carb Rebuild Kit .
Good time to try it out . Also on this engine I installed a Cooling Fan for the Test Run Camshaft Break in . I Want to see how well it will work ?

2ly4kd0.jpg

All Right I never Heard this Engine run Before ? And it Sat un-Started for at Least 10 Years . Lets see what it will do ? I will try out the HEI that I bought from dgas .
